The Facts of Life (A Ten-Minute Scene)

This scene was a part of the Diversified Play Festival at Lee Street Theatre (2016). The festival celebrated people of all different backgrounds, races, and sexual orientation and included six original plays by local playwrights.
What Melissa treasures most about this experience was getting to work on an original piece, alongside the playwright, Tom Bennett. Although the scene is comedic with a 90s sitcom style twist, there was a heartfelt message at the center. In order to make sure the moment wasn’t lost in the comedic chaos, Melissa created an intimate moment with the mother and daughter characters. She worked with the lighting designer to produce isolated lighting and rehearsed open body language.
